Colourful, vibrant and joyful flowers for a multi-cultural Spring wedding in Shoreditch

There are briefs where the couple hands you everything and steps back, and then there are briefs like Misha and Adrian's — where the couple arrives with a fully formed creative vision and asks you to build on it. I love this kind of creative collaboration.

Motel Studios sits under the railway arches in Shoreditch — it’s a blank canvas, which gives you complete freedom — and with a couple like Misha and Adrian, that freedom mattered. They wanted colour, vibrancy and joy, and the raw industrial character of the space was the perfect backdrop to let the flowers do exactly that.

Misha had made her own wedding dress. She had added details and embellishments that made it entirely personal — and she arrived with an equally clear vision for her bouquet. She wanted a trailing fall of orchids as its centrepiece, which was the right instinct entirely. I structured the arrangement around that — roses and anthurium for form and presence, lisianthus and flowing foliage to soften the edges — so that the orchids could lead without the bouquet losing its shape. Adrian's buttonholes were simple single orchids, chosen to complement his modern beige suit. When the personal flowers are this considered, the rest of the design follows naturally.

The backdrop was built to match their energy. Bright tropical flowers — anthuriums, orchids, bold seasonal spring blooms — layered together to create something abundant and celebratory. This was a wedding that was unambiguously itself: a mix of culture, heritage and pure colour, and the flowers needed to reflect that from the moment guests walked in.

Some weddings ask you to be subtle. This one asked you to be joyful. I was glad to oblige.
